The bell rang for school to be out. I was in the third grade and went out the backdoor of the classroom to find my mom standing, waiting for me. I couldnt wait to get home but when I looked out of the car window, expecting to be heading toward home, we were going in the opposite direction. I asked, “Where are going?” She replied, “You’ll just have to wait and see, we’re almost there.”
When we arrived at our destination I got out of the car and we went into this office like place. When I heard faint barking, I knew exactly where we were. We were at the animal shelter. A short and plump lady led us back to kennals where the dogs were. The first kennal that caught my eye had a ball of black fur lying in the middle of it. I walked slowly up to the door, trying not to make any noise, but when I came too close, two little puppy heads popped up. At that moment I fell in love with the little puppies. We picked the lab mix puppy with a white strip on his chest. We named him Chance because we gave him a second chance and he is now nine years old. He has been the best dog ever and we love him.
