Slice of Life

The bell rang for school to be out. I was in the third grade and went out the backdoor of the classroom to find my mom standing, waiting for me.  I couldnt wait to get home but when I looked out of the car window, expecting to be heading toward home, we were going in the opposite direction. I asked, “Where are going?” She replied, “You’ll just have to wait and see, we’re almost there.”

When we arrived at our destination I got out of the car and we went into this office like place. When I heard faint barking, I knew exactly where we were.  We were at the animal shelter.  A short and plump lady led us back to kennals where the dogs were.  The first kennal that caught my eye had a ball of black fur lying in the middle of it. I walked slowly up to the door, trying not to make any noise, but when I came too close, two little puppy heads popped up. At that moment I fell in love with the little puppies.  We picked the lab mix puppy with a white strip on his chest.  We named him Chance because we gave him a second chance and he is now nine years old. He has been the best dog ever and we love him.

The Impact of the Recession on Teens

The recession has affected a lot of people. From being unemployed.  By losing jobs people are losing their homes and cars.  They are losing their life’s savings more and more Americans are relying on assistance such as welfare, food stamps, and free or reduced lunches.  It seems like I see more and more homeless people each month, which is sad. It has affected my family and me in some ways.  We are trying to save money by cutting down on going places like movies or out to dinner. I’ve also been trying to save my own money so I can buy things myself.  I believe that the recession will get better over time with the help of President Obama.

Last winter my family and I went to Hoo Doo to go autobahn tubing.  I have a lot of memories about that trip, but there is one memory I won’t forget.

I got my tube and was trudging myself up an extremely steep hill to get to the ten different chutes.  Chute five was my favorite chute, by far, to descend down the hill because your tube propelled you so fast. It made the lightly falling snow that hit your face, seem like a blizzard. At the very last minute I had decided to go down chute six for a change of pace.

When it was my turn to go I got a running start and flopped down onto my tube on my stomach. I was going so fast that when I looked up everything was a blur of glistening white snow.  The strip of green ribbon was that of the trees.  When I was able to see further down the chute, I realized I was heading straight towards a huge ditch at the end.  I tried to use my foot the steer my out of control tube away from it, but it was too late!  The next thing I knew I was flying one or two feet in the air clutching my tube for dear life.  A few seconds later I hit the ground with a huge THUMP!

My tube flew out from under me and continued to maneuver forward.  I lay on the icy floor waiting for the pain to set in, but I truly believe my body was too numb from the blistering cold to feel anything but the cold.  I got up moments later and retrieved my tube that had finally stopped a few yards ahead of me. Then I headed on my way for the excitement of going down the autobahn chutes again.  What number would I choose this time??!

Technology

1.  On a regular basis I carry around my red, bulky cell phone, that I’m not so fond of, and my coveted Ipod Touch that I could not live without.

2.  I use my outdated cell phone for texting and on rare occasion I actually use it for talking, most generally, only to my parents.

3.  If I need help, I ask my genius brother on how to use technological devices because it saves me time and he is a walking manual so to speak. Sometimes he is stubborn and refuse to help me, so I have to read the manual on my own and it very boring and it’s hard to stay focused.
